A recent report showed the Town of Stallings is not alone in considering disbanding its police department. Town leaders are debating whether to replace patrol officers with Union County Deputies.

An overflow audience at Stallings Town Hall weighed in on an idea to possibly disband the town's police department and replace officers with sheriff's deputies.

Stallings residents packed town hall Thursday evening to hear about the possibility of replacing the police department with Union County sheriff's deputies. Mayor Lynda Paxton said the idea is worth considering amidst tough budget challenges and a 33 percent increase in public safety costs since 2005.
